Engaging with Flowers

Spiritual teachers throughout history, including present day masters such as Thich Nhat Hanh and Eckhart Tolle, have recognized the power of flowers to “transmit deep teachings of profound meditation.” With so many of us based in metropolitan areas where accessing nature isn’t always easy, it is really exciting to know that even flowers purchased from the grocery store on the way home from work can serve as allies in creating health, healing and mindfulness. According to a Harvard Medical School researcher, Nancy Etcoff, Ph.D, behavioral research concludes that “living with flowers strengthens feelings of compassion, and decreases anxiety and worry.”  Vive le fleur!

The bouquet pictured here comes from my bunny garden, and was taken by talented Maui photographer, David Stodder.
